The Names in This Verse (4)

337 kāliyakrodhajanakaḥ

who roused Kāliya to wrath

S.B.G 10.16.4

Who provoked Kāliya's wrath — Kṛṣṇa deliberately jumps into the serpent's pool and teases him out to battle; without provocation Kāliya would not have come up to be defeated.

338 vṛddhāhikulaveṣṭitaḥ

engirdled by the brood of the ancient serpent

S.B.G 10.16.7

Surrounded by the old serpent's family — Kāliya's wives, children, and elder snake-relations watch the battle from the riverbank in terror, then come to plead for his life.

339 kāliyāhiphaṇāraṅganaṭaḥ

who danced upon the stage of Kāliya's hoods

S.B.G 10.16.27

Dancer on the stage of Kāliya's hoods — the celebrated image of Kṛṣṇa dancing on the hundred-and-one hoods of the multi-headed serpent; the dance is described as both terrible and beautiful.

340 kāliyamardanaḥ

the crusher of Kāliya

S.B.G 10.16.32

Trampler of Kāliya — the dance becomes a crushing; one by one Kāliya's hoods are flattened by the divine feet; the serpent vomits blood and poison.
