The Names in This Verse (4)

314 vṛkṣacchāyāhatāśāntiḥ

whose heat-weariness was eased by the shade of trees

S.B.G 10.13.6

Whose fatigue is dispelled by tree-shade — in the forest's noon heat, the boys rest in tree-shadow; Kṛṣṇa's tiredness (which is itself an aesthetic display) eases under the canopy.

315 gopotsaṅgopabarhaṇaḥ

who pillowed his head on the cowherds' laps

S.B.G 10.13.6

Who uses a cowherd boy's lap as pillow — at rest in the forest, Kṛṣṇa sleeps with his head on a friend's lap; the Supreme using a devotee's body as pillow is a celebrated image.

316 gopasaṃvāhitapadaḥ

whose feet the cowherds pressed

S.B.G 10.13.6

Whose feet are massaged by cowherd boys — as Kṛṣṇa rests, his friends press his feet; the bhakti tradition treats this gesture as the highest privilege.

317 gopavyajanavījitaḥ

fanned by the cowherds

S.B.G 10.13.6

Fanned by cowherd boys — the friends fan him with leaves to cool him; the Lord of all is served unselfconsciously by his playmates.
